Former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp says he can’t understand why Arsenal never signed centre-back Christopher Samba, whom he brought to current club QPR this January.
The Congolese defender has been widely regarded as a fine talent in the Premier League for some years now, after initially proving a quality player in his time at Blackburn. Last season he left the relegation strugglers for Russian club Anzhi, but Redknapp brought him back to England in the most recent transfer window for a fee of £12.5million.
With Arsenal’s recent struggles in defence, it does look like Harry has a point about Samba, who could probably improve our record at the back.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the Rangers boss said:
“When he was sold, I could never understand why Arsenal did not sign him that time. He is everything you need. He is quick, he can play round his feet. He is a proper centre-half. He could play anywhere in this country and for all the top teams.”
I’ve always thought he was a good player and can’t really understand why we didn’t try to sign him either. Oh well, maybe he’ll be available again when QPR go down…?
