Arsenal join chase for Remy

The Independent claim that Arsenal will attempt to hijack Newcastle and QPR’s move for highly-rated Marseille striker Loic Remy.

The French striker has been on the radar of several top clubs for a few years now, with Inter Milan and Schalke also reportedly interested, but it appears that Arsene Wenger could lead the race for his signature with a £10million bid to the Ligue 1 outfit.

It seems Remy has already turned down a big-money move to QPR, not wishing to join a club fighting relegation. Newcastle have bought well from France in recent seasons but could be in a fight to stay up as well, which might hinder their chances of luring Remy.

The 26-year-old is the latest striker to be linked with the Gunners, as Wenger is widely tipped to be chasing reinforcements to a front line still recovering from the sale of Robin van Persie to Manchester United over the summer. He has already missed out on Demba Ba to Chelsea, while links to David Villa seem to have died down.

It is certainly conceivable that Remy would be a target, and probably good value for £10million, but it’s also possible that this story has come about from rumours to get his value up. We’ll see.
